Match Report - U18 Boys Championship

Athenry 1-6 Kinvara United

A great display by our U18 Boys who put in a brilliant performance to beat Athenry away from home in the U18 Championship last Sunday.

It took Kinvara 20 mins to open the scoring and it came from some great individual work by Cormac Ivers who took on the Athenry left back and beat the keeper with a great goal, and if it wasn't for the post coming to Athenry's rescue Ivers nearly had another great effort 2 mins later..

On 30 minutes it was 2-0 and it was well worth the wait for the goal of the game, a 25-yard screamer from man of the match Lorcan Heavey. Kinvara then got a third just before half time when Adam Noone got in on the action with a goal he well deserved from his performance. Half time score Athenry 0-3 Kinvara Utd.

The second half started just like the first and on the hour mark, it was Lorcan Heavey who hit another fantastic strike straight into the top corner of the Athenry goal. Padraig Pearl then made it five through a well worked goal, another outstanding performance from him in midfield which has seen him also feature for our Mens team in recent weeks.

Athenry did manage to break down the impressive defense line of Conor Murphy, Jamie Gunning, Steven Faul and Caolin Keedy as well as top class keeper Cathal Corless, and scored a good goal to pull it back to 5-1.

Kinvara's Joe Corless then showed great feet to round the Athenry keeper only to be taken down in the box which saw Kinvara awarded a penalty. Up stepped Lorcan Heavey to complete his hat-trick and he made no mistake slotting ball into the corner to cap a dominating performance from midfield.

Well done to all involved and thanks to Athenry for having us on the day.
