Kinvara FC U15A had a comprehensive 6-2 win against Moyne Villa in Headford on Saturday bringing them to joint top of the table.
We had some impressive passages of play, passing the ball out of tight spaces and stretching Moyne Villa out of position.
Our 1st goal came from a dangerous, in swinging corner from Róan Cassidy Ó Máirtín that was turned into his own net by a defender.
Pierce Waterhouse scored our 2nd, a brilliant volley from the edge of the box beyond their keeper’s reach.
Eli Huban scored our 3rd, a fine volley over his left shoulder that gave the keeper no chance.
We created half a dozen other chances that went close in the 1st half: shots over the bar from Isaac, Evan and Róan; driving crosses from Charlie that we didn’t meet; surging runs from Adam that turned their defenders inside and out.
3-0 to Kinvara at half time.
Moyne Villa had a good period of play early in the 2nd half resulting in a goal from the edge of the box. They moved the ball well, over and back, stretching our defence and struck a great shot past the diving Lorcan Ward.
Kinvara upped the tempo again and 10 mins. later Evan Canning won the ball back well and let fly 30 yards out from the target… a superb goal. 4-1
Kinvara’s 5th was curtesy of a powerful run and strike to the near post by Eli. 5-1
Moyne Villa won a free kick a fair distance out which was struck excellently, giving them some hope. 5-2. Kinvara finished the game strongly however, Alex Danjou came close with a strike from the edge of the box.
We welcome Gavin Fitzmaurice and Shane O’ Shaughnessy back for their first competitive match of the season, they played very well.
We wish the 2 Moyne Villa players a speedy and full recovery after they clashed heads in the 2nd half.
We thank the referee, Tom Browne for a good match.
We also thank the parents who travelled and cheered the team on. Your support is vital to the team.
Next up is a road trip to Mac Dara in 2 weeks’ time, a top of the table clash. They put it up to us last year and we need to bring our ‘A’ game to come out on top.
