Moyne Villa 0-3 Kinvara United
For the third year in succession Kinvara began their league campaign against Moyne Villa, this time on their excellent new 4G pitch in Headford.
The game kicked off with Moyne Villa putting the visitors under a lot of pressure. Kinvara held out and gained the upper hand as the half progressed, with Eli Huban and Milo Heaney going closest to opening the scoring.
Scoreless at half time but the lads were in determined mood, starting the second half.
Kinvara continued where they left off in the first half and were rewarded with the opening goal early in the half, Milo Heaney opening the scoring with a low drive inside the near post. Kinvara made some substitutions at start & midway through the half and the fresh legs worked a treat with Emmet Hawkins doubling the Kinvara lead with a glancing header from close range.
Moyne Villa did threaten on occasion but Kinvara held firm. Ozzy O'Connor completed the Kinvara scoring with a fine shot into the roof of the net from the edge of the area.
A great start to the season that the lads need to build on.
Otis Warwick has had busier days but what he had to do he did well. His distribution was excellent.
The defence of Josh Kennedy, Shay Mooney, JJ O'Connor and Keelin Miroud were solid and disciplined throughout, with Liam Shaughnessy joining midway thru the second half.
The midfield of Milo Heaney, Senan Frawley, Ozzy O'Connor, Conor O'Donnell and Matthew Sexton put in a tough shift against a physically strong Moyne Villa midfield. Jamie Cooke, Morgan Waterhouse and Emmet Hawkins contributed hugely when brought on.
Eli Huban led the line excellently.
A great result away from home against a team who we now consider as "rivals", given the great battles we have with them over the past few seasons.
Great see the leadership today from the "old heads" : Otis, Josh, Shay, JJ, Keelin, Ozzy, Milo, Conor, Senan, Eli and Matthew.
Thanks to Moyne Villa for a hard fought game. We look forward to the return game in Kinvara later in the season.
